About us

Organ transplantation is often the only treatment option, but the the number of donor organs does not meet the needs of patients wating for a transplant.

Recognising the organ exhange as an important way of increasing the number of available organs, the European Union supported two projects - COORENOR and FOEDUS - under its Public Health Programme. These initiatives aimed to map and harmonize national medical, legal, and methodological approaches and included the development of a cloud-based and mobile platform to facilitate the international exchange of organs.

Building on this foundation, FOEDUS has evolved into a meaningful and sustainable organization, now uniting the majority of European countries and facilitating approximately 15 cross-border transplants each month.

2012

International cooperation started as project COORENOR

2015

Foedus ctivities were formalized. Members meeting was established and the first president elected.

2020

Foedus was registered as a legal entity under commercial register.

FOEDUS Organ Exchange association

Foedus is a non-profit organisation dedicated to facilitating the international exchange of organs for transplantation, with an emphasis on communication supported by advanced information technologies and the sharing of knowledge and expertise.

All activities related to organ donation, allocation, procurement and transplantation are carried out in full compliance with the EU directive and the national legislation of each participating country.

President

The President is the elected executive representative of the Association.

Secretary

The Secretary is the elected statutory representative of the Association.

Board Meeting

The Board Meeting serves as the supreme body of the Association, with the authority to elect its President and Secretary.

Members

Foedus currently has 18 members, representing 24 European counties. New members are accepted on written application, subject to approval of the Board.

Foedus information platform

The platform is accessible only to authorised Members and allows the uploading and distribution of organ offers and urgent requests among all participants. It fully respects existing bilateral and multilateral agreements.

Compliance

All activities of the Foedus Association comply with the national legislation of its Members. The cloud-based platform complies with Directive 95/46/EC and Regulation 2016/679 (General Data Protection Regulation).

Meet our Team

The Foedus team includes representatives from member countries, with key contacts for each country, as well as medical and coordination experts. The Foedus web-based platform has over 100 actively contributing users.
