The population served by Foedus
Foedus was established to facilitate the exchange of organs among European National Authorities.
Thanks to the use of advanced information technology Foedus aims at increasing the number of patient that could benefit from this international cooperation.
Patients benefit from a larger donor pool, resulting in shorter transplant waiting times, with significant benefits for paediatric patients.
Donated organs that are not allocated domestically can be offered for international exchange, thereby optimizing organ utilization.
Member countries share medical, coordinating, legal and ethical expertise in transplant medicine.
The Foedus shows how international cooperation can help improve healthcare in member countries.
1
Only donated organs that cannot be allocated domestically are shared on the platform.
2
For the sake of transparency, each member country has access to the organ offers through the platform. The system is set to send alerts to all or to selected countries in order to abide to bi-multilateral agreements in place.
3
Once the organ is offered to the platform, compatibility, logistic and quality of the organ are the key components to accept. Foedus Member states have agreed upon the first come, first served rule to determin the final recipient.

The purpose of the mobile app is to provide immediate information about the insertion of an organ offer record for transplantation.
The mobile application is only available to registered users. It is designed for both IOs and android.

Foedus leverages information technology to facilitate efficient international organ exchange, thereby increasing the chances of finding suitable recipients to donated surplus organs.
